Do you remember your grandma’s
kitchen towel? It was handmade on a old timey weaving loom full
of hundreds of brightly colored, durable threads. There may not
have been many of them around the house, but you didn’t need
them! The towels were so durable and well made that they lasted
for a very long time. Red Hill General Store has partnered with
Bob and Cely Harman, owners of Old Virginia Textiles in Hiwassee,
Virginia to offer you these products from the past. Bob and Cely
Harman are part of an old family business that was started six generations
ago with the Goodwin Family Weavers. No two items are exactly alike
because each one is handmade. The selection of towels, dish rags,
hot pads, and throws are made in the “Snail’s Trail
with Cat Tracks” or the “Virginia Tobacco Bloom”
weaving pattern. These products are also offered at the Smithsonian
Folklife Festival. |
